“Who’s going to score first?”
That was the question on all the fans’ minds.
Tied at 0-0 in the sixth inning, Citrus Owl Madelyn Hajj stepped up to bat.
All eyes were on Hajj as she swung her bat.
Hajj hit a home run, earning Citrus the only run of the game.
Citrus’s softball team won against LA Mission 1-0 on April 15, extending their conference record to 9-2.
The game was a pitchers’ duel for five innings, with both teams being shut out.
Citrus pitcher Caitlin Kelley pitched a complete game.
“My mentality every seventh inning, whether I get runners on or not, is to just shut down everyone, throw as many strikes as possible.” Kelley said. “That’s exactly what I did all game.”
Having previously beat LA Mission earlier this season on March 20(6-0), the Owls went into the game with a determination to win.
“We always beef with Mission, so it was good to win,” Citrus Owl Rylee Praytor said.
Citrus Owls Sofia Femath and Kaliah Lopez each stole a base that had their teammates roaring in support.
Hajj hit her twelfth home run of the season, the most at the community college level.
“I didn’t realize it was the winning hit, I was just happy in the moment,”Hajj said. “I was happy I could pick my team up when we were down.”
Citrus continues to move forward with their next conference game against Antelope Valley.
The Owls previously lost(7-0) to Antelope Valley on March 25.
The game will be at 2:30 p.m. on April 17 at home.
