Citrus’ student government is left without a leader. What will it do going forward?

Citrus’ student government, the Associated Students of Citrus College, currently doesn’t have a president or a vice president.

The ASCC provides opportunities for students regarding campus-wide activities, student government, discounts at local businesses and amusement parks.

The last president, Eden Yang, of the ASCC said she stepped down before the spring semester started due to “personal reasons.”

Yang was originally elected into the role of vice president during the spring 2024 elections, but became president after her predecessor, Marlene Fuentes, stepped down before the fall 2024 semester.

After Yang became president, the role of vice president remained empty during the fall 2024 semester.

In article 6, section 2 of the ASCC constitution, the succession of president shall fall onto the vice president. If there is not a vice president, as there is not in this case, the board will elect one of the voting members.

“We have opened up voting for any ASCC member to run for president,” student life supervisor Rosario Garica said.

In the next ASCC meeting, the candidates from the ASCC will let the board know why they should be president and a new one will be voted in.

The next ASCC meeting will be at 2:40 p.m. on Mar. 11.
