With the anticipation and anxiety of postseason basketball close on the horizon, the Citrus Women’s basketball team is in pursuit of playoff glory. Their first stop, Fullerton.
The Owls enter the 2025 playoffs with the 19th seed in the 3C2A women’s socal bracket, finishing the season with a 18-10 overall record and 9-5 record in conference.
They’re set to play their first game at 14th seeded Fullerton City College at 6 p.m. on Feb. 26 who despite having the same 18-10 overall record, fared worse in conference with a record of 6-6.
The Owls come into the playoffs with a much hotter run than Fullerton firing on all cylinders after not only beating 4th seed Glendora City College, but hindering them from a perfect season in conference.
On the contrary, the Hornets come into this game after losing four out of their last five in conference, and being held to less than 50 points in their last two.
What the Owls do not have going for them is their previous history with Fullerton. They were defeated by the Hornets 77-61 at home in November 2024.
As the Hornets look to defend their territory, they’ll be forced to keep tabs on many of Citruss’ key players like guard Jolleen Olia, point guard Brenna Escobedo and guard Kristin Morella.
Both of the Owls’ sophomore guards, and first team conference players, Olia and Morella will be providing a constant state of attack.
Morella will look to lead the attack, shooting 40.725% from the field in her last four games and averaging 19 field goal attempts.
Olia will also be putting on the pressure on the Hornets. She has put up double digit points in her last 13 games for the Owls.
Escobedo will look to dig deep and put in the dirty work for the Owls as she has averaged 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.8 steals in her last five games.
If Owls manage to return the favor and beat Fullerton at home, they will be in line to play third seed Moorpark at home.
Ticket prices for the 3C2A playoffs are $12 for general admission and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens (60+) and children under 12.
