The Owls’ men’s basketball team brought everything they had to the court and Glendale could not keep up. On Feb. 21 with a final score of 125-101, the team’s focus and commitment to excellence was on full display.
“We put a nice run together late in the second half that … really separated us. They were kind of hanging around 13 to 15 points, but we really needed that citrus run to extend that lead,” said Coach Tobin Kund.
Although things ended well Blake Ballard, who plays guard, said that it was a slow start and the team needs to do better to remain competitive.
“…if we get that together, you know, we play citrus basketball: play hard, play the right way, and worry about ourselves then I think we can make a pretty good push for the playoffs,” Ballard said.
Brady Cook, a Citrus guard, said that the team played hard and that it was a step in the right direction in preparation for playoffs.
The reffing at the game was inconsistent and harsh at times, but the players remained focused.
“I mean I think we just gotta play basketball, you know, don’t worry about the refs, right? it’s always all part of the game. Both teams are playing with the same refs so it doesn’t matter,” Cook said.
It was a night where the teams and crowd’s excitement was palpable. As they move into playoffs, the Citrus Owls continue to push to the finish line.
