Inland Valley Humane Society hosts adoption event

Seven dogs and 21 cats were adopted at the Inland Valley Humane Society in Pomona “Bark after Dark” event on Nov. 13.

“Bark after Dark” is a monthly adoption event in which all adoption fees are waived.

The Humane Society houses over 100 dogs and 100 cats with a large majority being up for adoption, one of which was Nova the cat.

Nova was adopted at the event by Ashley Guerrero and her family.

“Nova seemed very playful, kind and had a very outgoing personality, something we wanted,” Guerrero said. “I think people should adopt because you can save a life and make them happy.”

Along with Guerrero, someone who had also grown a big bond with a cat was head of public relations at the Inland Valley Humane Society, Nicole De Jong.

De Jong said that out of all of the cats, her favorite was Bertha.

“Bertha is a sweetheart, she’s very mellow, she loves snuggles and she would make a good TV companion,” De Jong said.

De Jong urged people to adopt as she said it’s a chance to save a life and a person will never feel more love than from a rescue animal.

In addition to cats, the dogs at the Humane Society were sparking bonds with attendees.

Volunteer for the Humane Society Sarah Wallin formed a particular connection with a dog named SJ.

“What I love about SJ is that he has been through hell,” Wallin said. “He was found beaten up bruised, but his tail never stops wagging. He’s so friendly, so nice and is ready to just follow you wherever you walk.”

Wallin is a big advocate for animal adoptions, especially at the Humane Society.

“There are so many great dogs at the shelter right now”, Wallin said. “They’re lovable, want to be big cuddle bugs and just need a chance to be seen.”

Wallin also said she’s a big supporter of adopting bigger dogs, saying they need love as well and shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Inland Valley Humane Society’s mission statement is “to provide a safe refuge for all sick, injured, abused, and abandoned animals that have no other alternatives” and “to lead the community in finding homes for all adoptable pets.”
