The event will be at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 7 in the Campus Center Mall.

Maria Buffo, the director of the Veterans Success Center, said Citrus partners with Azusa Pacific University to select staff members from each school to celebrate at the event.

The veterans are nominated by their colleagues, she said.

“They can bring their families,” Buffo said. “The entire campus comes out and celebrates it.”

Citrus will be celebrating Allan Weaver, who is a faculty member in Citrus’ diesel program and a U.S. Army veteran, as well as a Citrus alum.

Rio J. Martinez, who was chosen as APU’s honored veteran, is a military and veteran coach for APU’s military and veterans services. Buffo said he is a Navy chaplain who started in the Marine Corps.

This year, the event’s closing keynote speaker is Jixing Bian, who is a U.S. Army veteran and a computer science major at University of California, Irvine, she said.
