Citrus College’s new chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success has grown quickly since its launch in the spring.
As Citrus’ chapter of the NSLS first semester concludes, the chapter has grown to 243 members.
Rosario Garcia, the chapter adviser and student life supervisor at Citrus College, said the rapid growth is due to the comprehensive leadership programs offered by NSLS.
Garcia said the NSLS Online Program at Citrus College is designed to equip members with essential leadership skills through a structured sequence of steps.
“Members start their journey by watching an online orientation video and participating in Leadership Training Day exercises,” Garcia said, “which provide a foundational understanding of leadership concepts.”
Garcia said members must demonstrate their knowledge by answering questions reviewed and approved by the chapter advisor.
She said that after the online orientation, NSLS members engage in three speaker broadcasts featuring insights from experienced leaders.
“Attendance is tracked automatically,” Garcia said. “Members receive credit after watching the entire video, ensuring that students fully engage with the content.”
Garcia highlighted that the Success Networking Teams meetings are a crucial part of the NSLS program. She said these meetings are designed to facilitate small group discussions where members regularly meet to talk about their individual goals and offer mutual support.
“For the SNT meetings, you meet with your group every 1-2 weeks to discuss your goals and hold each other accountable,” Garcia said.
Max Lin, a past Citrus student who joined NSLS in 2022, said he benefited from his time with NSLS.
“I learned a lot about being a leader and setting myself up for success,” Lin said. “During orientation at NSLS, I enjoyed meeting the speakers and the motivation I received.”
Lin said the NSLS program is invaluable for students in developing their leadership potential and expanding their interpersonal networks.
“This program will enable students to broaden their horizons and improve their leadership skills through communicating with classmates from different backgrounds,” Lin said.
Garcia said there are extensive benefits available to NSLS members, which include lifetime access to scholarships, personalized letters of recommendation and a network of success coaches and influential speakers.
“These resources aim to improve self-esteem, peer leadership skills, and sustainable motivation,” she said. “They help members discover and achieve their dreams, gain real-world skills to outperform peers in the workplace, and connect with a network of movers and shakers who drive lasting positive change in the world.”
As the chapter continues to grow, Garcia emphasized the importance of adapting to the needs of students.
“We aim to keep growing our membership and adapting our programs based on feedback from current members,” she said.
