Citrus College has added 14 new non-credit certificates


Citrus College has expanded its approach to teaching and learning through the growth of noncredit programs and courses.

Since the fall of 2021, Citrus College has added 14 new non-credit certificates.

Noncredit programs are designed to provide students with courses that introduce the fundamentals of basic and advanced skill sets that will assist in advancing them according to their personal goals and objectives.  

At the core of this development is Citrus College’s director of continuing education, Ivon McCraven.

Q: In total, how many noncredit programs does Citrus College offer? 

A: Noncredit offers ESL, citizenship, older adults, health and safety, mirrored course, and short-term vocational programs. We also offer 24 certificates, including ESL, business, drone technology, health and American Sign Language. 

Q: How are the noncredit programs selected? 

A: Noncredit instruction includes an array of no-cost courses that help students reach their personal, academic and professional goals. The courses are free with no registration fee or prerequisites. They are also open to everyone, regardless of residency status. Noncredit courses are developed by faculty, and they follow the same approval process as credit courses. 

Q: Aside from a student developing personal skill sets, what other benefits should a student look forward to when enrolling into a noncredit program? 

A: Noncredit courses are flexible and accessible to students. Students can take noncredit classes to prepare to transfer into credit courses and/or to enter the workforce. 

Q: What is Citrus College Continuing Education Department doing to promote noncredit programs outside of campus in efforts to reach community members? 

A: Citrus College mails noncredit brochures to district households three times per year. In addition, the college uses social media to promote classes. The program also partners with the local libraries to promote courses. 

Q: Essentially what are the long-term expectations Citrus College has for noncredit programs and courses? 

A: The noncredit program continues to grow as students and employers seek fast paths to job-ready skills. Noncredit will continue to help students pursue their desired goals and potential, as well as continue to collaborate with credit programs.
