Citrus sports roundup: Men’s water polo dominates in first home game

Football

Citrus College had its 17-game winning streak snapped by its rivals Mt. SAC in a 42-21 loss on Sept. 23.

The Owls had 137 rushing yards while also having 136 passing yards. However, the Mounties’ 161 rushing yards and 245 passing yards helped them seal the deal.

Citrus falls to 3-1 and will be on the road to face Golden West on Sept. 30. 

Volleyball

Citrus College suffered a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-16) loss against Bakersfield on Sept. 27, bringing its record down to 3-13.

Citrus’ McKenna Cooper had eight kills while Faith Evaro had seven. However, Brianna Bowyer and Aubree Dees each had 10 kills, which helped Bakersfield secure the win. 

The Owls will be home, facing Santa Monica on Sept. 29. 

Women’s Golf

Citrus College attended the fourth Western Conference Event and finished with a score of 455 on Sept. 25. 

Isabelle Olivas-Lowell posted a 77, giving her fourth place.

The Owls will compete at the fifth Western Conference Event on Oct. 2 at the Antelope Valley Country Club. 

Men’s Soccer

Citrus College battled with Chaffey and ended up with a 0-0 tie on Sept. 26.

Citrus’ Christian Sanchez had three saves, leaving Chaffey scoreless for the game. 

The Owls are now 4-2-2 for the season and will be home to face Victor Valley College on Sept. 29. 

Cross Country

Citrus College competed at the Golden West Central Park Classic on Sept. 22. 

Ryleigh Larue ended with 21:06.0, earning 12th place for the event. 

Geo Cabello finished with 24:16.4 to lead the male Owls. 

The Owls will compete in the Western State Conference Preview Meet on Sept. 29. 

Men’s Water Polo

Citrus College ended its home opener with a 17-4 win over El Camino on Sept. 22. 

Both Riley Bagley and Colton Vale had four goals, while Brian de Lama had 11 saves within three quarters. 

The Owls will face off against Cerritos and Fullerton on Sept. 29 at the Cerritos Mini Tournament. 

Women’s Water Polo

Citrus College secured a 12-8 win at home against San Diego Mesa while also suffering a 13-7 loss against Riverside on Sept. 28. 

Delaney Latham had eight goals in the victory against San Diego and five in the loss against Riverside. 

The Owls are now 2-8 for the season and will attend the Delta Women’s Invitational on Sept. 29.
