Citrus sports roundup: Isabelle Olivas-Lowell scores a 73 for golf win

Football

Citrus College defeated Grossmont College 36-15 on Sept. 16, adding a win to its now 17-game win streak.

The Owls had 136 rushing yards, in comparison to Grossmont’s single yard. 

Chandler Carthan, the SCFA Special Teams/All Purpose player of the week, averaged 54 yards in a span of seven punts for the game.

Citrus will be on its own home field, facing its rivals Mt. SAC on Sept. 23.

 

Volleyball

Citrus College walked out the Eagle Invitational on Sept. 16 with two wins, beating Glendale 3-2 (15-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-11, 15-3) and Victor Valley 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15).

Faith Evaro had 16 kills against Glendale, while also having seven against Victor Valley. Vanessa Marquez had 23 assists against Glendale, and 23 more against Victor Valley.

The Owls will compete on their home court, facing San Jacinto on Sept. 22. 

 

Men’s Soccer

Citrus College defeated San Diego Mesa 3-2 on Sept. 19 to bring the Owls’ record to 3-2-1 for the season. 

Jacob Ponce had two goals, while Isaac Ochoa shot the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. 

Citrus will remain on the road to face Allan Hancock College on Sept. 22. 

 

Women’s Soccer

Citrus College dominated Norco in a 4-0 victory on Sept. 19, giving the Owls a 2-2-1 record.

Dianna Garcia assisted Jayme Beatty for the first goal of the game, before making her own goal which gave the Owls the 2-0 lead at halftime.

During the second half, Samantha Casas scored a goal for Citrus, before Ari Salcido scored the final goal of the game.

Citrus will have the home advantage when it faces West LA on Sept. 26. 

 

Women’s Golf

Citrus College attended the third Western State Conference on Sept. 18 and had a first-place performance from Isabelle Olivas-Lowell.

The Owls’ victory included a 73 from Olivas-Lowell and a 120 from Makenzy De Ridder. 

Citrus will compete at the fourth WSC on Sept. 25 at the Olivas Links Golf Course. 

 

Women’s Water Polo

Citrus College suffered two defeats in the Riverside City College Tournament on Sept. 16, losing 13-5 against Orange Coast College and 20-3 against Saddleback College. 

Against OCC, three goals came from Delaney Latham while also getting two from Andrea Hayler. 

The match against Saddleback College had goals from Sierra Beltran, Elizabeth Walls and Charly Figueroa.

Citrus will compete against Riverside and San Diego Mesa on Sept. 28 at the Citrus Mini. 

 

Cross Country

Citrus College participated in the SoCal preview on Sept. 15 and made improvements to its run time. 

Ryleigh Larue had her best time as she finished with 19:33.2, which is 40 seconds less than the week before. 

Geo Cabello also shaved close to 40 seconds off in comparison to last week’s time, finishing at 23:17.4.

Citrus looks to continue its improvements on Sept. 22 at the Golden West Central Park Classic.
