Citrus Owls: Sports Preview

Football

Citrus College carried its undefeated momentum from last season to beat College of the Canyons 34-28 in its season opener on Sept.2. 

The Citrus quarterbacks put on a show as Jack Benson delivered a touchdown with his 11-of-15 performance while Koy Riggin went 6-of-8. The Owls had significant contributions from Tayvonne Miller and Kannon Katzer who each scored a touchdown. 

Their defense also held it down, led by the eight tackles from Cody Stordahl. 

The Owls look to add another win on the road against Mt. San Jacinto on Sept. 9. 

 

Volleyball

The Owls suffered a 3-0 (13-25, 16-25, 15-25) road defeat against Pasadena City.

Citrus’ McKenna Cooper had seven kills while Vanessa Marquez had 17 assists, but Pasadena managed to take the victory. 

Emma Yogan’s 12 kills helped Pasadena secure the win, leaving Citrus with a 1-7 record. 

Citrus College hopes to bounce back against LA Mission on Sept. 13. 

 

Men’s Soccer

Citrus College went to battle against Southwestern College, which resulted in a 2-2 draw. 

Both Isaac Ochoa and Sammy Ghandour had goals for the Owls, matching the two that the Jaguars would eventually have.

Citrus will look to take advantage of being at home vs. Imperial Valley on Sept.12. 

 

Women’s Soccer

Citrus College went head-to-head with San Bernadino Valley in a game that resulted in a 1-1 tie. 

Samantha Casas scored the Owl’s only goal, making it the first goal of the season as well.

Danira Valenzuela would eventually make a goal for San Bernadino Valley, tying the game up. 

Citrus is now 1-1-1 and will go on the road to face Pasadena City on Sept. 12.

 

Men’s Water Polo 

Citrus College snatched a 13-10 win against CalTech to give the Owls a 5-3 record. 

Although CalTech’s Justin Hong had three goals, Riley Bagley led the Owls with five goals, followed by Colton Vale who had four. 

Citrus plays at home against El Camino on Sept. 22. 

 

Cross Country

Citrus College attended the Moorpark invite and placed sixth in the women’s individual 5000 meters thanks to Ryleigh Larue.

Geo Cabello led the men with a time of 24:09.2 for the Men’s 4-mile run individual.

Citrus will look to take over when the Oxnard Invite comes around on Sept.8.
