The Citrus Owls soared past the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles 31-20 at the American Division Championship on Saturday at Mt. San Jacinto cap off their undefeated season.
The Owls totaled 472 yards of total offense with the help of quarterback Adam Urena, who racked up 269 yards and three touchdowns through the air as well as 35 yards and one touchdown on the ground and wide receiver Robert Vega, who caught four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Both teams started the game slowly, going scoreless through the first quarter of the game. The Owls struck first, scoring just about two minutes into the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Arden Napier from Urena.
The Eagles redeemed themselves and tie the game going into the half, but the Owls wouldn’t let that stop them.
The Owls kept the momentum going in the second half with a 65-yard dime from Urena to Vega.
Most of the game’s scoring came in the fourth quarter, with the Owls scoring 17 points to the Eagles’ 13 ,making the final score 31-20.
After the game, Vega was named the offensive player of the game, and Urena was named most valuable player.
On a season that had many ups and downs, Including the unexpected passing of star defensive lineman Luke Pruitt who passed in a motorcycle accident early October. The Owls lifted Pruitt”s No. 97 jersey with triumph to end their historic undefeated season on the perfect note.
