Positive COVID-19 test reported at Citrus Board of Trustees meeting and campus event

A person positive for COVID-19 attended the May 17 Citrus College Board of Trustees meeting, Head of the Citrus College COVID-19 Workgroup Robert Sammis said in an email on May 20.

The case was also tracked at the Tenure and Retirement Reception earlier that afternoon in the Campus Center, Sammis said.

On May 19, Sammis said in another email an additional attendee of this event had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Tenure and Retirement Reception featured appearances from every member of the Board of Trustees and Superintendent/President Greg Schulz, according to a memo from Schulz on April 20.

Masking was not required at the event that was attended by various faculty and school administrators. 

The number of COVID-19 cases on campus per week this semester have risen by 29% after the removal of the indoor masking requirement at the school on April 11, according to a record of notifications sent from the COVID-19 workgroup regarding transmission of the virus.

From the start of spring semester on Feb. 23 to the day of the shift in the masking policy, there were a reported 24 COVID-19 cases. Since April 11, there have been 26 cases.
