Citrus College’s Dean of Career and Technical Education is leaving Citrus after being with the school for four years.
Michael Wangler joined Citrus College in 2017 as dean of mathematics and business. He later became the interim dean of Career and Technical Education before accepting a permanent position in 2019.
He accepted a position as a director of institutional support at Growing Inland Achievement. He will be working with the 12 community colleges in the Inland Empire to strengthen guided pathways.
Current Dean of Mathematics and Business Victoria Dominguez worked with Wangler when she was math faculty and later when she became a dean.
Dominguez said she worked with him on implementing AB 705 at Citrus and developing a corequisite course for introductory statistics, which she said was “very exciting because we were doing something very new.”
Vice President of Academic Affairs Joumana McGowan said she enjoyed working with Wangler.
“We met for the first time at a dean meeting in December of 2020,” McGowan said. “He was nice, very respectful, and very involved with his staff and he was a great team player.”
In his time at Citrus, Wangler enjoyed finding challenges and helping math teachers and students succeed, McGowan said.
Wangler has a master’s degree from the University of California, Riverside, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
A memo from Citrus College said that he started teaching earth science at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon and was a member of the academic senate.
“We are immensely grateful for all the contributions that Mr. Michael Wangler has made during his time at Citrus College, and wish him nothing but the best in his new position,” Vice President of Academic Affairs Joumana McGowan said in the memo.
After 16 years at Cuyamaca College, Wangler started and managed a successful organic food manufacturing business in Idyllwild, the memo said.
Wangler was called and emailed four times between September 8 and September 10 but did not respond for an interview.
