COVID-19 sanitization is on standby

Citrus College’s plans to purchase three items for $50,000 each labeled “Blanket PO-COVID-19-Sanitizing,” the Board of Trustees Agenda said on May 19. The suppliers are Safety-Kleen, Servpro of Glendora and North State Environmental.

The latter company, Safety-Kleen has a variety of services.

Safety-Kleen is a leading provider of environmental services with reliable, sustainable environmental services to diverse businesses for more than fifty years,”  Safety-Kleen said on their website.

Safety-Kleen provides  “Coronavirus Cleanup” and a track record of helping in a crisis. Safety-Kleen’s website said they helped decontaminate farms during the Avian Flu Crisis in 2015 and helped control an Anthrax contagion at NBC Studios in 2001.

Servpro of Glendora focuses on biohazard decontamination.

Servpro of Glendora’s website said the professionals are trained and experienced in “biohazard decontamination and chemical spills.”

North State Environmental safely gets rid of hazardous material. Their website said they have coordinated chemists who oversee their handling of hazardous material along with properly certified hazmat personnel.

Shawn Jones, Director of Business Services for Citrus said via email the purchase order comes from Capital Outlay.

The purchase orders were established in case we required cleaning services during COVID-19 and to date, no charges have been incurred against those purchase orders,” Jones said. “The funding for the purchase orders is coming from Emergency Preparedness which is under Capital Outlay.”

Capital Outlay spends funds for equipment to make improvements to property to “increase their value or useful life,” the website Canutillo-isd.org said.

The Clarion reached out to the Environmental Health and Safety Programs Advisor at Citrus Jeffrey Eichler and Director of the Student Health Center at Citrus Dr. Shauna Bigby but have not heard back from either of them at the time of publication.
