Photo essay: Closed for Business

How Claremont has been affected by COVID-19

Having lived in Claremont for over 20 years I have seen so much in the city that I love. COVID-19 has changed Claremont like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

The famous Claremont Village was brought to a standstill as ‘safer at home’ orders were handed down to local small businesses. The many shops and restaurants across The Village suddenly lay barren and empty at times.

Claremont is a small city of 35,000 yet has 23 parks and trails spread throughout the city. All of them have either been closed or have had restrictions placed on their use.

The Claremont Colleges, known as the 7c’s were changed dramatically as students were sent home early for the semester. Commencement ceremonies have been postponed and the campuses closed to the public.

The city I took for granted for so many years suddenly changed almost overnight.
