An Uber driver was stabbed, which led to an eight-hour-long standoff where SWAT was called at the Glendora Motel, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune said.
The stabbing took place on Feb. 17 at the 400 block of W. Route 66. Ricky Alvarez, 23, of West Covina was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken to the Glendora City jail with a bail of $2 million.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Information Center said he is currently jailed at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 16.
Five other detainees from the incident were said to be acquaintances of the attempted murder suspect but the police only disclosed they “found evidence of fraud in the room” police said.
Sgt. Michael Henderson is the lead detective on the case. “There was a physical altercation at the end of the ride which resulted in the victim being stabbed numerous times in the lower body; the suspect then fled on foot to the local motel where he and five others barricaded themselves,” Henderson said.
“Pepper spray was eventually introduced to the room along with various other tactics that lead to the arrests.”
The victim was rushed to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition. Officers recovered the weapon used in the stabbing but are still investigating what led to the fight between the two men.
