Citrus College is holding an on-campus Financial Literacy Seminar open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 16 in the CI building in room 159.
Robert Smolin, accounting instructor and faculty advisor for the Citrus Business Association,
said the objectives of the seminar are to help people understand their finances better and to avoid pitfalls that put people into financial trouble. Smolin said although any age can learn and benefit, being able to educate a younger audience is ideal, to teach them before their pitfalls happen, to avoid them and build their wealth.
Smolin said the three hour presentation will be broken up into three segments, covering investing basics, building strong credit and managing debt, buying a home and understanding mortgages.
Jim Fischella, adjunct faculty in the school of business and co-advisor of the business club, said the presentation will also discuss the stock market, real estate and how to invest in it, and other types of opportunities.
The event is co-hosted by the Business Club and Career Transfer Center.
Smolin said several investment advisers will be speaking at the seminar along with Citrus College real estate professors, Charles Byerly and Nick Paulson.
This is the first year the Financial Literacy Seminar will be a three hour event.
To learn about finances, avoiding pitfalls and staying out of financial trouble, attend the seminar this Saturday at Citrus College.
