The Citrus College men’s basketball team defeated the Long Beach City College Vikings in the regional finals of the SoCal Regional Playoffs with a score of 93-78 on March 9.
The new year has been nothing short of spectacular for the Owls as the win against the Vikings makes it 13 straight wins for the Owls with their last loss more than two months ago.
The win comes from an amazing performance from Josh Caston, starting point guard for the Owls, who scored a season high of 48 points. Caston shot 52 percent from the field and the freethrow line by making 24 of his 29 free throw attempts.
“I got in a rhythm, it was a mixture, just being aggressive,” Caston said. “Over the week we looked at the way they guarded screens just their strategies and we tried to exploit them as many times as I could.”
Psalm Maduakor, sophomore guard, also had a great game and finished with a double-double. Maduakor had 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and perfect from the line.
The win guarantees the Owls a trip to the elite eight, as they play in a quarterfinal matchup at 1 p.m. on March 14 against the Sequoias Giants at Ventura College.
