Citrus midfielder Enrique Garnica put the ball in the back of the net for game tying goal in the 90th minute.
“I’m glad they didn’t quit being that this is the last home game for our guys, they kept playing and they got an equalizer so that felt good,” men’s soccer head coach, Fred Bruce-Oliver said.
The Bakersfield Renegades opened the scoring with a goal by Gilberto Guevara in the 36th minute.
Jose Lara assisted on the goal to make the game 1-0, giving Bakersfield the lead.
The Owls’ remained resilient regardless of trailing 1-0 for the whole game. The Bakersfield defense were able to hold of the Citrus attack in the first half.

“The guys figure out how to play against them in the second half, defend a little better and had more ball movement,” men’s soccer assistant coach, Eddie Flores said.
Bakersfield only had three shots on goal and Citrus goalie Christian Arevalo saved two of those shots. The Renegades had opportunities to score another goal in the final minutes of the game, but failed to capitalize.

The Owls’ played with a chip on their shoulder knowing they were going up against a team in contention for conference play.
“We struggled to get the result that we needed, but overall I think the boys played well both teams,” Bakersfield men’s soccer head coach, Varynon Martinez said. “People could say it was a fair result but I would have taken the three points instead.”
Citrus Men’s Soccer will have their last conference game on Nov. 9 at Glendale College.
