Citrus Football falls to San Bernardino College

Owls defensive back Chima Mbaruguru intercepted a pass for a 50-yard touchdown against the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The Wolverines drove down field and scored late.

The Owls did not answer back, losing to the San Bernardino Valley 42-35.

“It’s a learning lesson,” said Major Lee, the Owls wide receiver `. “We have to get better.”

The Owls were playing catch-up most of the game.  Sophomore running back James Brown rushed for a 56-yard touchdown bringing the score to within two points in the third quarter,

The Owls made a two-point conversion on a pass from quarterback Kody Olmos to Lee. The momentum of the game built for the Owls, who outscored the Wolverines 18 to 7 in the third quarter.

The Owls defense started the game with a 37-yard interception return from linebacker DJ Allen. They also recorded six sacks during the game.

“We are about to get a turnover because God is in our favor, ” said Dexter Hunt Jr., the Owls sophomore tight end

As the fourth quarter started, the Wolverines quarterback Armando Herrera completed a pass to wide receiver DeJuan Moon for a 24-yard touchdown.

An Owls field goal attempt was blocked keeping the score 34-28 Wolverines. The Owls kept the fight, but it was not enough to hold the Wolverines.

“You win some and you lose some, but you live to fight another day, ” said Allen and Tre Curtis, respectively the Owls linebacker and cornerback.

The Owls next conference game is at home against Antelope Valley at 1 p.m on Nov. 3.
