Forty-nine seconds in the second quarter sophomore defensive end Grant Trueman scored a touchdown on a 8-yard fumble recovery to maintain an Owl lead. This was the story for the Owls’ in this 43-6 conference game victory over Desert College.
Trueman was a standout player scoring a touchdown fumble return, a blocked kick and a sack in this blowout win.
The crowd and players roared as the Owls’ never looked back after jumping to a 21-0 lead in the first half.
Freshmen Marcus Knight rushed for a 56-yards touchdown in the first quarter sparking the offense for the Owls’. Desert Colleges’ defense could not stop Knight, with him ended up rushing for 120 yards and one touchdown.
The defense for the Owls’ were locked in as they only gave up six points and stopping the run game allowing -5 total rushing yards.
“The passion for the game of football is simply meaningful because of the work I put in whether it’s practice or even like the game we had today, ” Owls freshman cornerback Tre Curtis said.
In the second quarter the Desert Roadrunners put their first points of the board with a 1-yard run. However, the extra point attempt kick by Leonel Munguia was blocked by Trueman.
Knight was not the only running back to break a huge touchdown. In the fourth quarter freshman running back Justyn Alexander rushed for 40-yard touchdown with Sean Bailey Jr. extra point piling on the score 34-6.
“When things get tough don’t go to your emotion go to the principal,” Owls defensive back Coach Braxton Brown said.
Owls’ running back James Brown also scored a 1-yard touchdown at the end of the game topping off the score 43-6. The Owls’ rushing game was unstoppable with three different running backs scoring a touchdown and totaling 269 rushing yards.
“We know that we have each other backs on and off the field,” Owls defensive back Warner said. “Today we showed that we know what needed to be done and how to make that happen with our coaches help.”
The Owls next game conference game is away against Victory Valley at 1 p.m on Oct. 20.
