Flores wins presidential election

Art major Fernando Flores was elected president of the Associated Students of Citrus College for the next academic year. Flores received 87 votes. His opponent, Ian Rodrigues, had a total of 27 votes.

Flores has previously served as the Vice President of the Latinos Unidos Student Association and has been an ASCC senator for one term. He said his goal while at Citrus College is to have more cultural events. In the future, Flores said he wants to get his degree in art, then pursue a second degree in Native American law.

The position of Vice president will be filled by psychology major Makayla Pedroza as she had no competition. Despite being the only candidate for the position, Pedroza received 100 votes, the most of any candidate.

Pedroza wrote in her offered candidate information for voters that as a transgender woman of color she can bring awareness of gender issues and violence against women to the ASCC board.

Of the two students running for legislative liaison, Ruben Avila won the election by 34 points. Avila had 70 votes whereas Christian Miranda had 37.

Because there were only five students who applied for senator positions, two seats are currently empty.
