A breath of fresh fair

Every year, Angelinos gather in Pomona for the one event that has a little bit of something for everyone: the Los Angeles County Fair.

The Pomona Fairplex goes from empty parking lots and grounds to loud music, animal noises, crowds and bright lights at the beginning of September. No matter how old you are or where you come from, the fair provides.

Students in the area can find a free college day assigned to their school in the final days of the fair. With a student ID and a printed coupon, they can enjoy a full day’s worth of Ferris wheels, exhibits or animals.

Petting zoos, animal races and exotic animal exhibits are among the must-do’s for kids and adults.

Fair-goers looking for a more relaxing ride can take a ski lift or hop on one of many Ferris wheels and admire the hustle and bustle from above while being taunted by the scents of smoked turkey legs, barbecue and fried everything in obscene sizes.

Thrill-seekers can head straight to familiar rides like the Zipper, the swings or any other fast and flashy attraction.

With comfortable shoes and some spending money, the fair is a breath of fresh fall air.
