Chris G. Van Winkle, an art instructor who taught at Citrus College for over 30 years, passed away January 23 at the age of 86.
Van Winkle, born in August 1929 and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was married to Caroline Dilworth for 61 years.
In Canada Van Winkle had his first sons, Gary and Michael.
Van Winkle and his family moved to Covina, California in 1954 and had three more sons, Christopher, Joseph and Ted.
He studied watercolor at Citrus College with Robert Hallet in the 70s and eventually taught at Citrus College for more than 30 years.
After retiring from his VanArt commercial art business at the age of 62 he spent his life instructing, conducting workshops, leading paint tours around the world and continued watercolor painting and was also an advocate for local artists.
Van Winkle’s services took place on Jan. 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
His Celebration of Life was Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.
