The Citrus College women’s water polo team played their first conference game against conference reigning champions Santa Barbara.
The Owls lost against Santa Barbara 8-3, despite their coach’s confidence from last week’s dramatic win against Rio Hondo.
Santa Barbara started out strong with tough defense, blocking Citrus for a majority of the first and second period, rounding out the score 6-1 by halftime.
Citrus was able to score two goals and keep up their line of defense once the second half of the game began.
Santa Barbara was still able to sneak two goals past them, ending the game 8-3.
Despite opening the season with a loss, Citrus head women’s water polo coach Meaghan Paschall remains optimistic.
“The scoreboard doesn’t show the defense by the girls after the first quarter,” Paschall said, “They were impressive and I’m excited to see what’s coming up for them this season.”
